Required Compressed Air Quality

Air purity needs vary by process. From general manufacturing to strict ISO 8573-1 for food, pharma, and medical use, we design systems that deliver the right cleanliness and dryness.

[A]

Dry Particulate

Limit solid particles by class to protect valves, actuators, and instrumentation.

[B]

Total Moisture

Specify pressure dewpoint for your process to prevent corrosion and product defects.

[C]

Oil Carryover

Control aerosol/liquid/vapor oil content to safeguard product quality and safety.

ISO 8573-1 Compressed Air Quality (Purity) Classes

Format: class [A],[B],[C]

Specify purity by document and revision (ISO 8573-1:2010), then select a class for each contaminant. Example: 1:2:1 = Class 1 particulates, Class 2 moisture, Class 1 oil (at reference conditions).

ClassDry Particulate [A]
(max count / size)
Moisture [B]
(Pressure Dewpoint)
Oil [C]
(Total mg/m³)
0As specified by user/supplier (stricter than Class 1)
1Very low particulate (e.g., ≤20,000 @ 0.1–0.5µm)≤ −70 °C PDP0.01
2Low particulate (e.g., ≤400,000 @ 0.1–0.5µm)≤ −40 °C PDP0.1
3Moderate particulate (≤90,000 @ 0.5–1µm)≤ −20 °C PDP1
4–6Progressively higher particle levels by class≤ +3 °C to ≤ +10 °C PDP5–10
XAbove Class 6 particle limits> +10 °C PDP> 10

Notes: Class “0” must be defined in writing; Class “0” label alone does not mean oil-free. Always verify test method capability for the class claimed.

PURITY CLASSIFICATION — Typical Use by Industry Level

Level 1

ISO 8573-1 Classes 5–6
  • Tire filling & general shop air
  • Air tools & sandblasting
  • Grinding and basic utilities

Level 2

ISO 8573-1 Classes 3–4
  • Spray painting & powder coating
  • Automotive assembly & packaging
  • Textiles, plastics/blow molding

Level 3

ISO 8573-1 Classes 0–2
  • Laboratory & cleanroom
  • Pharma, food & beverage
  • Medical/breathing air, electronics

Guidance only—confirm exact purity class with your process, regulations, and QA standards.

Compressed Air Drying and Filtration

Air purity starts with two essential elements in system design: drying and filtration. Our air dryers remove excess moisture, delivering reliable dry air for everyday or critical applications. Inline filters then capture oil, vapors, and particulates to ensure consistent purity. Together, they protect your equipment, reduce downtime, and keep your operations running at peak efficiency.
