Principles of Osmosis and Reverse Osmosis

Osmosis is a natural process where water moves from an area with low total dissolved solids (TDS) through a semi-permeable membrane to an area with higher TDS. This movement occurs to equalize the concentration of solutes on both sides of the membrane.

What is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a water purification process in which pressure greater than the natural osmotic pressure is applied to the side with higher TDS. This forces water to move through the semi-permeable membrane toward the side with lower TDS, effectively reversing the natural direction of osmosis.
